This chapter follows right on the previous night’s heels and keeps things interesting with the first on-screen fatality of the story. And a murder that’s all the more interesting because of the inherent intrigue involved in it — that it’s intended as much to frame one of the players as to keep the police off the rest of their trails. A good way to show that the story means business now and the players are far less inclined to pull their punches as the halfway point approaches.

Another rather interesting piece to this chapter is the mention of the ritual objects — namely the Icon, Bowl, and Ring. To my recollection (which really should be better considering I just read the chapters leading up) this is the first mention of those three. In point of fact, I don’t think that we even know how many Objects of Power there are yet or what the other two are. This chapter somewhat implies Jack’s knife is one, though I also thought Snuff already mentioned it wasn’t important in that way. In either case, it’s a fun nod to a piece of the Game that hasn’t shown up quite yet. Especially as the story progresses and you get to keep track of Snuff’s guesses as well as the two that weren’t mentioned.
