Just a little slice of life in the life of a writer:
“Hmm. So I want this character to be mysterious and menacing. The kind where neither the audience or the characters are sure what she’s up to or whose side she’s on [Footnote 1].”
*A few chapters later.*
“Wait. She’s just a tsundere.”

To wit, a sample of unfinished dialogue:
Our protagonist: “I still have no reason to distrust these ‘dread rulers’ and every reason to distrust someone who attacked me without warning twice.” Bristling, the stranger started to say something I was sure would end with ‘test my skill’, but I cut her off before she could get a word out. “And I don’t care if you think I have potential if you can’t be bothered to explain what you want to use that potential for. Heck, you didn’t even tell us you brought our cart back or why.”
Mysterious Hooded Stranger: “I am well accustomed to war. I dislike seeing food go to waste.”

Footnote 1: Gee. Never seen you pull that one before. Certainly different from the Witch of the New Moon. And her sister. And her other sister. – The Twisted Jerk.
