As the title says, The Adventure Continues. To start this one off, I actually have a few more things that came to mind from SC while playing it; I just didn’t have them noted down.
SC:
Why, why, why is one of these requests ‘play poker’? I’m not good at poker! Does it seem like I’m the kind of guy who’d like poker?
Never thought ‘It’s time to save the man I love through GIRL POWER’ would be a line I’d find earned, in character, and unironically good from a writing perspective, but here I am.
3rd:
And boss of the Impregnable Fortress done. I only wish I’d been able to fight him with Agate. And Estelle. And Anelace. And Julia. And Zin. And I really wish I could have more than four to a party sometimes.
Me, casting Calamitous Blast on a single enemy for the ADF down (and damage): “Is this an appropriate use of EP?”
Not gonna lie, Farewell Arena made me tear up.
Who thought this fishing minigame was a good idea? I mean, RNG aside since that’s a… very big can of worms, why did they feel the need to add five rounds each time. I don’t want to fish fifteen times in a row.
And also, who thought that was an obvious — no, intelligible — clue for ‘bring a Luck Quartz’?
Man. I didn’t think anything could come close to Silver Will, but Overdosing Heavenly Bliss is getting there for me.
Related: After Kevin’s appearance in SC convinced me that I should focus a little more on the Scholastic Church in my own setting, 3rd has come around to making me think I should have a Gralsritter-style character. Fortunately, there is a convenient role for such a character to fill in book 2, so that’ll be fun. Now I just gotta figure out who I want my wandering battle-priest to be, personality-wise.
Related, related: Ries is great. I’m so glad we got her in 3rd and I hope the series going forward can find spots for her to show up. I really wish I had a good opening for a character like her in my works, but I just don’t think there’s quite the right spot for sword-nun. At least not today.
Well. Aster House was a time.
Why is the Abyss so long? Did we really need that many floors for our bonus dungeon?
Oh hey. Zemurian Ore. Finally get to actually use ultimate weapons, since I was not good at collecting books.
Related: Oh boy! Now that I’ve actually done the heavy lifting, time to power level the characters I’ve been wanting to use but just haven’t because they don’t quite fit the party comp. Julia, it’s your time to shine.
Related, related: Though… I mean. I only have four slots for the final dungeon. How the heck do I parse this down? Kevin and Ries obviously have to go for plot significance (and the fact that I like them [and the fact that Ries is an incredible caster]), but the other two? I want to bring along Julia because knight, but I also want to bring along Joshua because Joshua, Olivier because Olivier, Agate because Wild Rage / Dragon Dive, Anelace because Jinu, and Richard because Richard. How do I decide between those six?
A~nd then there’s the Zemurian Ore. At least Kevin and Ries already have better weapons and Anelace has Jinu.
Zero:
So I said I started the prologue (I mean, if I dawdle then the Twisted Jerk will get too far ahead of me.) and here we go! Time for some of this!
I mean, love that we start with a party of four. That handily solves my biggest problem with FC. And these guys seem great! Didn’t think I’d like Randy that much, but he seems like a bro.
Why does everyone hate me?
Are. You. Serious. In what way is that the right choice I’m supposed to make here? Why would I, as an ostensibly well-intentioned defender of the populace, think that ‘bring an unarmed child into a known monster den’ is the right choice? I’m pretty sure rule number one is don’t bring noncombatants into danger. I’m pretty sure that just about any other option is better than that. Way to go Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings. If this keeps happening, I’m making a counter.
Okay, yeah, sure. Turns out if we’d done something else the other kid would have died. But just because we so happened to be right this time doesn’t mean that’s the right option. Don’t endanger a life just because another might be in danger.
Oh wow. Glad that ‘Draw the monsters attention to myself’ did not in fact draw the monsters attention to me. Love that I needed to know this was happening in advance and adjust my formation appropriately.
Oh hey. And look at that. Turns out bringing that kid along with us was a bad idea and almost got him killed. Who’d’a thought?
I want to like Arios, but he’s kind of rude.
Why does everyone hate me?
I want to like Grace, but she’s kind of rude.
Oh. O~h. It’s gonna be one of those games, isn’t it? You know, I play these fantasy games because I like getting to be a hero and help fight evil, not because I want to deep dive into police / political corruption. Especially since it feels like some of the time the issues directly facing the protagonists are issues that exist because the narrative says so. Ball’s in your court, Zero. Got a steep hill to climb here.
I want to like the Bracers, but they’re all so rude.
Oh hey, Fisherman’s Guild. Glad to see the cult is spreading.
Ah yes. I love how the Trails series is good about naming the characters things that make sense. Stuff like ‘Estelle Bright’ being a reasonable name, representing her character’s sunny disposition, and having a bit of a pun as ‘star bright’. Fun. Lloyd Bannings sounds like a persons name. MacDowell? Real surname. Hemisphere? Wait, what?
Ah yes. The Testaments who hang out in their ‘sanctuary‘ Bar Trinity and go on ‘crusades‘. Definitely nothing to see hear. Nosiree.
Ok. Gonna level with you. Don’t agree with your deductions there Wazy. I mean, sure, I get that the pavement is stone and the location is circumstantial no matter what. But nail-bats are not hard to make. I don’t think the fact that your friend was beaten with one of the easiest to replicate weapons on the planet proves anything. But I guess I’m not Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings.
Oh hey! Estelle and Joshua! Woo-hoo! … I hope they don’t hate me.
Hrm. Leaving the city does feel a bit more ‘adevnture-y’, but the vote’s still out. The general vibe of this arc just might not be for me.
