Here we are, wrapping up the last impressions from the 3rd and moving forward more into Zero. And if you’re wondering why I’m two days overdue on the site updates for the end of July… Uh… Remember that whole crippling self-doubt thing? Yeah, that.
3rd:
Obligatory Star Door 15 remark. I’ll admit, I was spoiled on this one going in, so I don’t have as much to say.
Man. So far Trails has not disappointed me with the airship scenes. While the escape from the Glorious is still the most hype, the Arseile taking flight was just great. Even the cheesiest of cheesy moves in having the cannon laser turn into a falcon… Excellent.
Hold up. Four teams of four? I mean, yay that I get to use everyone, but I did not prepare for this.
Ah crap. Forget about levels or equipment, some of these Orbments are absolute crap.
And as we enter, first to the left, we have: Olivier, Schera, Mueller, and… Zin. I don’t know, I went with personal relations and Zin just kinda filled a spot.
Nothing like walking into the final dungeon with a party that’s 75% underleveled by 20.
First floor down, accidentally went for right second instead of middle. Whoops. But now featuring: Joshua, Estelle, Kloe, and Josette. In other words, Joshua’s Harem. Seemed appropriate.
Oh Estelle, never change. Glad you have the most appropriate reaction to a giant robot falling from the sky. Most real people would probably definitely to “Frick” or something similar as well. It’s like Sahad’s reaction to killing the Theos de Endogram.
Final door time! Main door is Tita’s crew: Agate, Tita, Renne, and… Anelace. Again, it seemed appropriate.
Oh man. I can’t believe I lucked into Tita and Agate fighting fake-Ragnard. Makes me wish (a little) I’d sent Renne against fake-Pater-Mater, but I think I like where she’s at better.
And finally the main crew, my favorite four(ish): Kevin, Ries, Julia, and Richard.
Also, the chest messages in Phantasmagoria are weirdly… supportive? Like, I feel touched on a personal level reading these messages. So many of them are all ‘you can do it!’ and ‘keep believing in a brighter future’ and that just… It’s really touching.
The three scrub-party bosses down. The only person that got downed was Agate to an unfortunate Wild Rage mishap. That checks out.
Oh thank goodness. They let me save after the boss rush.
Hrm. That was a kind of… Underwhelming final boss. I mean, I never felt pressed to keep my Earth Walls up and only ever really took damage because of an unfortunate error in timing. It was only Kevin who took the damage anyway, so it’s probably fine, right?
Everyone: Heartfelt goodbyes, signs of relationship growth, and declaration of their newfound convictions. Julia: Imma stand here with my bird while Kloe does all the talking.
Well. 3rd done. And I gotta say, that was very satisfying. Couldn’t have asked for a better end to the Sky arc. I still think it might be my favorite of the bunch, but it is worth note that I like it so much because of the other two games. It wouldn’t be as good if it wasn’t the capstone to that story. And also, to Sky’s credit… I kinda want to play FC again now. Like, I feel like there’s so much I’d pick up on now that I’ve gone through the story once and it would be much more fun now that I know how to play the game. It reminds me of when I was younger and would pretty much beat every game I played twice in a row.
Zero:
Hmm. Well, I guess it feels a little more adventure-y now that I’ve left the city. And they have mentioned ruins and stuff I’m sure I’ll get to explore. We’ll see. I’m watching you Crossbell.
Well. Looks like I joined the Fishing Cult. Yay?
Oh. Oh. That’s why these NPCs have portraits. O~h.
Oh hey. Casino’s open. Guess I’ll pop in and… Oh no. The armor increases speed. Oh no. Those shoes increase Evasion for my Lloyd build. Oh no. I need to play poker. This is my hell.
Oh cool. There’s rewards and incentives to fishing now. I guess… that means… Well, there goes another 10 hours of my life, I guess.
And the statue makes recipes important too? You can give fish to Coppe? Gotta say, starting to see how much more developed Zero is from a mechanical standpoint. Now just to see where the story takes it.
“I wish my daughter would visit more. It’s not like she has a husband […]” Wow. WOW. Just… Way to complain to the brother of your daughter’s dead fiancee that she isn’t married. Truly brilliant.
