Well, first (second) day of the chapter was rather uneventful. Just usual festival fluff and some fun tournament times.

‘The Thirteen Factories are a group of twelve workshops […]’

Now you listen here–

Huh. It’s probably not, but is ‘Sister Marble’ a reference to ‘Maytera Marble’? Because that would really be something.

Also, in retrospect it makes a lot more sense who ‘Kitty’ is. Even if I don’t actually know yet. I mean, who else could it be?

“Alright. Gotta figure out which of the people leaving the bus is the culprit. Well, it’s probably the one with the unique sprite– wait, Kilika?!”

If Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings cpuld go five minutes without letting someone retreat, that would be great. Like, I can let it go with Sully. There was a strategy even if they left a pretty hefty vulnerability if the culprit didn’t act as expected. But with the counterfeit dealer? Really? You didn’t even try to cut off their escape.

‘We got the hacker’s info! And there’s a file attached. Let’s open it.’
… Tio… I thought you were supposed to be good at computers.

Oh look. Those dinos I beat with ease are now suddenly uninjured and knocked me over with a roar. I’m shocked. This is my shocked face. Cue Falcom’s DMPC.

Also, Grace has grown on me.

And Agate-tier Randy is fun. Ok, maybe it isn’t quite Agate-tier, but War-cry and Taurus Gem makes for one heck of a combo.

Fishing done. Finally. At least the tedium helped wipe the poor taste Bad Cassius’ last showing left.

Sigh. And here we are again. Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings taking a child into danger because she insisted. I mean, I get it, but Lloyd isn’t an audience member.

Wait. Can this be? I got to beat a boss fight with no strings attached? Sure, someone else killed two of them preemptively, but I got to take out the other four just like that. Everything is better when it’s tangentially related to Sky.

And [insert Renne reaction here]. If I’m being honest, that’s a plotline that just didn’t quite land with me [Footnote 1]. I was spoiled on some of it, so maybe it’s that, but I think part of it is just personal taste. Or my attempts to power through the series so I could catch up left it by the wayside.

But at least I’m finally at the last day of the festival and things should be heating up. In all honesty, I found this chapter a bit tedious.

Eyy! Phantom Thief B! Shame I can’t tell Joshua and Estelle about it and commiserate.

Bobcat! No Josette, but still nice to see.

Is that… Lechter? It is Lechter. Man, they’re really leaning into the tie ins this chapter, aren’t they? I don’t hate it.

Are… are we just going to keep these rings? Like, is there a lost and found I can turn these in to? Just because they aren’t the rings our client’s looking for doesn’t mean we should just pretend they no longer exist.

Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings, entering a party consisting of members of the criminal underworld: gives the name of a known police officer as his psuedonym.
My dude, I don’t care if you say the name is fake and the real bearer is dead, that’s a bad idea.

Oh wow! Randy and Garcia have a whole duel thing planned. This would be a super dramatic moment if I hadn’t already beaten him and his mooks in a fight! If you want me to care about any important battles, then let me actual win a few, huh game?

Ah, so Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings isn’t content merely taking children into danger, he feels the need to take his newly adopted kind of daughter with him to exterminate high profile targets. Truly a class act.

Entering the Moon Temple be like: “Wow. What a mansion.”

So I know I joked about it five seconds ago, but…

(Sorry about the size: any smaller and quality suffered).

And reaching the top of the temple:
Lloyd: “What is it?”
Tio: “Blood. I hope it isn’t Chris’ blood.”
Okay, maybe I embellished a little.

No! Don’t leave me, Noel! I love you!
…r car.

Sigh. LecterWhy? Must you provoke the obviously unstable man? Must you?

Also, it occurs to me: Dieter is totally going to sell Crossbell out to Erebonia, isn’t he?

The SSS: Investigating drugs (apparently) distributed by Revache that improve physical abilities.
Mirielle: “Bellguard Gate [– run by a man with known ties to Revache –] just got some supplement pills that are supposed to help us fight better.”
Lloyd ‘Ace Detective’ Bannings: “Nice.”

Nevermind. Now that I’ve seen what Dudley’s capable of, tsundere detective is alright in my eyes.

Seriously? Flying Felines? I’m level 34.

Detective Dudley, First Division Crossbell Police: punches his allies — including a 14 year old girl — in their faces to motivate them. Ace Detective.

THE JACKET COMES OFF FOR JUSTICE HAMMER!

Oh, Judgment Bullet is excellent.

All in all, I give Dudley an Attack Orders / 10.

WE’RE FIGHTING A GUNDAM? This is the best segment of the game.

So with Chapter 4 wrapping up, I think my biggest issue with this game might just be a sense of tedium. Like, these chapters are long. Longer than the chapters in Sky felt. I just really find myself wishing they were broken up a little bit more; or in the case of Chapter 3, just streamlined. It really didn’t feel like we needed all of the plot quests they gave us, especially as build up to the Schwarze Auction. Some of those definitely could have been support requests and the whole chapter parsed down to two days.

Footnote 1: That really ties back all the way to Sky. I wasn’t really all that sold on Renne in SC and the 3rd. To the point that I was kind of with Ries when she called her out in the latter game. Like, yeah. Your life has been bad. You have a lot more power than other people. Does not give you an excuse to kill people and threaten others with the same for simply existing. I don’t know.
