Solid five years ago Martlet: “Alright, and I think it would be interesting to use medieval Spain as a base for Perlora, to keep with the general theme of the nearby nations.”
Now Martlet: “But Perlora’s a heavily mercantile nation in extreme proximity to the setting’s Renaissance Italy-based nation. It would make more sense for them to be based on crusader-era Venice and Genoa. How am I supposed to reconcile this with some of the information I’ve already established, huh past me? What the heck were you thinking? Actually run these things through your head for more than five seconds, idiot. Like, at least the north has a somewhat sensical in-universe historical basis for how things developed and the relationship between nations, but this is just the worst. And I mean, Morwenna. Like the name, keeping it for the character because that was always the plan, but how am I supposed to deal with a Welsh name used for someone related to vaguely Venetian-Spain? Saying she’s from the Sea Scar city-states doesn’t help things since they’re still fundamentally Perloran in base culture. Maybe if she was originally one of the Constellation pirates, but this just doesn’t work at all. Come on dude!”
