This chapter’s a bit fun for a couple of reasons. And the first of the longer chapters where things really start picking up. As for the fun little things, the first of which is the little introduction scene of snuff and Jack’s stalking for the day since it’s another of those fun little ‘magic is as magic is for it’s own inscrutable purposes’ things. But overall not that important. And there are two other interesting little tidbits that aren’t all that important. The first being the mention of Dijon, as I’m fairly certain there was another vaguely Jack the Ripper-esque [Footnote 1] unsolved murder there… sometime. I’m actually having trouble pulling the research on that, but I’m pretty sure that’s actually a thing and the book implies it was Jack which then has further implications for later. The second, of course, the way the chapter ends with Snuff’s brief mention of lessons with Growler. That’s something that’s not touched upon very much and left mostly as a mystery, but does tie into some rather important events later.
And finally, perhaps the most interesting news from this chapter is Bubo. Without spoiling anything, Bubo’s a character to keep an eye on since there’s a fair chance he’s the smartest of the familiars. But nothing else, it’s up to you to see that one out.
Footnote 1: If you hadn’t figured that out by now, whoops.
